Herbs

We stock a large range of herbs which you can buy as small plants grown in pots, for planting into beds, or containers. They are very easy to grow, have sweet smelling leaves and flowers and can even be dried for winter use.

You'll find all the reliable old favorites, including Rosemary, Basil, Chives, Fennel, Lavender and Mint, plus some more unusual varieties.

Uses for herbs

As well as providing an attractive corner in your garden, herbs are useful in a variety of ways, and will attract beneficial insects to the garden.

Use herbs in cooking for stocks, stews and casseroles, or to make your own pot-pourri, herb teas, sachets for clothing drawers, herb oils and vinegars.

Creating a Herb Garden

You can create a herb garden in even the smallest space, even a window box or window sill. Other ideas for creating an attractive herb garden include planting varieties in a grouping of herb or strawberry pots (as shown in the pictures, above) on a sunny terrace, or in a small border. We have a fantastic selection of outdoor terracotta pots that would also be suitable.

One of the best ways to grow herbs is in a divided, pocketed bed, so that each variety can be kept seperate, as some are more invasive than others and will over-run more restrained varieties.

Sage, Thyme and Mint are herbs that come in variagated forms, making attractive displays of different coloured foliage.
