Deciduous Shrubs

Some of the most beautiful flowering types of shrubs are deciduous, but even though they lose their leaves, the rich colours of their autumn foliage before they drop, together with the way they change again in spring as their bare branches burst back into leaf and flower, means they always provide great interest in the garden.

We stock a wide range of deciduous shrubs, including Cornus ('Dogwood' - with their beautifully coloured bare stems over winter), Fuchsia (with their beautiful pendulous, bell shaped flowers), Hydrangea (with white, pink, red, or blue 'mophead' flowers), plus a great many more. Our huge choice of shrubs range in size from small, to mature specimens.

Within our shrubs area, you will also find a wide selection of popular hardy Palms and Ferns, including some dramatic examples of Tree Ferns.

Shrubs can be chosen for their foliage, flowers, shape, even for their stems, but don't forget that shrubs can be very fragrant too. Choisya has fragrant flowers and aromatic evergreen foliage when gently crushed.

Evergreen and Semi-evergreen Shrubs

Evergreens will not lose their leaves over winter. Some shrubs are classed as semi-evergreen, which means that they may keep their leaves if conditions are mild, or may shed them if the climate is harsher.

Coloured foliage can be as important as any floral display, and evergreens can come in a whole range of colours - variegated, golden, coppery, or purple, as well as the typical dark green, glossy appearance of some Hollies. Rhododendron (evergreen), Mahonia (semi-evergreen), Berberis (deciduous and evergreen varieties), Skimmia (noted for its bright red berries), Pieris (with its bright red new spring growth), are just a few examples of popular evergreens which we always have in stock.

Some shrub species have evergreen and deciduous varieties (Berberis being an example), but whatever you require, we have a large selection on display at all times.
